Shawn Bennett is a Toronto-based conductor, educator, and arranger, originally from Newfoundland and Labrador. He holds a Masters degree in Orchestral Conducting from the University of Toronto, where he studied with celebrated Canadian conductor Uri Mayer and served as Assistant Conductor for both the UofT Symphony Orchestra and Wind Symphony. In addition to graduate studies, Shawn has been privileged to conduct such prestigious ensembles as Orchestra Toronto (2023 Apprentice Conductor Program), the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra (2023 RBC Canadian Conductors Showcase), l’Orchestre Symphonique de Québec, and l’Orchestre Métropolitain de Montréal (2023 Domaine Forget International Conductors Academy, under the guidance of Maestros Kensho Watanabe & Yannick Nézet-Seguin). Shawn currently maintains a dynamic freelance conducting practice in Southern Ontario alongside his established career as a beloved music educator. In 2025, he was honoured to be named the inaugural Artistic Director of the NextGen Youth Orchestra at Wilfrid Laurier University.
